Quality Cleaning Services has implemented a Safe Work Plan for cleaning under COVID-19 Alert System. Many of these systems were already in place, but the have been re-iterated with staff and clients. When you come back to work after lockdown, keeping your workplace clean and hygienic is still going to be as important as it was before lockdown. While your cleaners may come in each night or at the end of the week there are things that you and your staff can do to keep your office clean during the day:

Make your staff responsible for their own work space - have bottles of anti-viral cleaners available around the office, so that they can regularly clean their desks, key boards, mouse and phone hand sets
Shared desks - if you have an office with shared desk areas - have a bottle of anti-viral cleaner on each desk, and put up a sign that after use the staff member must clean the space before they leave
allocate a person, or have a roster for a staff member to clean high touch points 2 or 3 times during the day. These include door handles, light switches, photo copy buttons, toilets, push buttons & taps. Don't forget the exterior door handles!
have a kitchen cleaning roster - after all breaks like morning tea, afternoon tea and lunch ensure the kitchen is properly cleaned - again with an anti-viral cleaner if you can. Wondering why you might need an office cleaner ? A US study has found that on average phones are the most contaminated item in the office. Dr Charles P Gerba from the University of Arizona, found over 25,000 organisms per surface.

Comparisons with other surveys reveal that some typical desk items could be around seven times more contaminated than traditionally ‘dirty’ items such as toilet seats. Because we know of the importance of cleaning toilets, your office cleaners will pay particular attention to the toilets to ensure they get properly sanitised every time they are cleaned, but we often forget about items that sit on our desk and are handled several times a day.

You won’t drop dead by using the phone or mouse, but you should think about how dirty your hands may be after picking up the receiver. How to find a GREAT Office Cleaner

The difference between a good office cleaner and a great office cleaner is in the detail. Here are 5 things we get our cleaners to do, that really make a difference.

Use a toothbrush to clean around taps and plug holes - this removes all the dirt and grime caught around the edge.
Damp wipe as much as possible, rather than just dusting. Dusting just moves the dust around, and often it just settles in different places.
Weekly take the foot of the vacuum and vacuum into the corners, edges and behind furniture
Polish it dry - so that you don't leave smear marks. Once we have damp wiped sinks, taps, benches and desks, we finish by polishing with a dry micro fiber to leave a streak free surface.

We think a better solution is reducing the amount of bin liners and rubbish bags that you need altogether and we are happy to work with our clients to achieve this. The three main ways we can reduce the amount of rubbish bags used are:

encouraging recycling of paper, cardboard, bottles and cans
having paper only bins at desks - that don't need bin liners and can be recycled
having a central office bin instead of one at each desk
seeing if there is anyone at the office that has a compost bin, and might want to have a food rubbish bin they can take home each week and add to their own compost bin

The Secret to Simple Window Cleaning

Easy Window Cleaning

There are many window cleaning products on the shelf of the supermarket, some with some quite strong and even toxic chemicals in them. So I thought I would share an industry secret on how we get the windows clean and shiny.

What you need:

Sunlight liquid dishwashing detergent (you can use other products, but this seems to work best)
Window fluffy cleaner - preferably with an abrasive pad on one side
Window Squeegee (you can buy a fluffy window cleaner with a squeegee on it)
a rectangular bucket that will fit your fluffy cleaner in it
warm water
two microfiber cloths

Put warm water in the bucket (deep enough to totally cover your squeegee when put dipped in), and a generous squirt of dish liquid. Wet your squeegee, squeeze out some of the excess water, give the window a good clean with the fluffy, going both vertically and horizontally - use the abrasive scourer to get of any stubborn marks. Squeegee the water of I find it best to go horizontal - in between each line of squeegee wipe the blade with the microfiber cloth to keep it dry, start the next line of squeegeeing (that really is a word) with the top of your squeegee about an inch in the dry and on a slight angle.

When finished the window pane, wipe all edges with the damp microfiber and buff any marks with the dry one and presto a wonderfully clean and shiny window.

If you want the exterior of your car to stay clean and shiny, you need to wash it regularly, but after a while you will need to cut and polish the paint, to bring the shine back. How often you do this depends on how much you use the car and where you are driving it.

Your vinyl floor is the same. We can mop it regularly, but it will still need to be either machine scrubbed and buffed (if no polish) or stripped and polished. How often this needs to be done depends on how much traffic the floor gets, and what sort of office / warehouse you are in.
